Privacy Policy
Seaman App · seamanapp.com · Last updated 13 July 2026Seaman App exists to keep a seafarer's career records safe and under the seafarer's own control, in line with the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173) and its IRR. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can ever see it, and how you stay in control — including the newer identity-verification and recruitment features.
What we collect
- Your account email address.
- The profile you choose to write: name, nationality, rank, headline and summary — and, if you fill in the optional CV fields for a manning-ready profile, your phone number, date and place of birth, height/weight, civil status, languages, and availability date.
- The career records you add: certificates and their scans, sea-service history, achievements, and countries visited.
- A profile photo, if you add one.
- Basic app-usage data needed to run the app and keep it working (e.g. sync status, crash diagnostics) — no advertising SDKs, no ad tracking.
We only ever hold what you enter or what the app genuinely needs to function — there's no hidden tracking or third-party ad networks.
Identity verification (optional)
Getting the blue verified check on your profile is entirely optional. If you choose to verify, you submit a photo of a government or seafarer identity document (e.g. your SIRB, SRB or SID) and a photo of yourself, used only to confirm you are who your profile says you are.
- Submissions are checked automatically; when a manual review is needed, it is viewed only by an authorized reviewer, and every access to it is recorded in an immutable audit log.
- Your ID photo and selfie are stored in private storage, reachable only through short-lived signed links — never a public URL.
- They are never shown on your public profile, to recruiters, or to other crew — only the resulting blue-check status is visible.
- They are permanently removed when you delete your account.
Purchases
If you buy Seaman Pro or the Navigators Club, we store a purchase/subscription record (which product, its status and renewal date) so we can unlock those features for your account. Payment itself is handled by Google Play — we don't receive or store your card details, and we don't share your purchase data with third parties.
Location
The app can use your device's location for navigation tools (like showing your position on the chart) and to place ports near you. Location is used only within the app to power these features — it is not sold, shared with advertisers, or used to track you.
Who can see it
Your career records are private by default — certificates, sea service, and ID documents are protected by row-level security in the database itself, not just by the app's screens.
Crew community & leaderboards (on by default): a public crew card — your display name, rank, level, medal count and countries-visited count — appears on leaderboards, and posts you make are visible to other crew. This never includes your documents, certificates, sea-service details, email, or ID. You can leave the leaderboards and delete your posts at any time.
Recruiters & manning agencies (off by default): an agency can see an actual career record only while an explicit, revocable consent you granted is active. Medical certificates and ID documents are never shared automatically — those need a separate, deliberate grant from you. The app's “Who can see my data” screen lists every grant you've made and lets you review or revoke each one at any time.
Where it lives
On your device (so the app keeps working at sea, offline) and in our cloud database (Supabase, hosted in Singapore). Certificate scans, ID documents, and photos are stored in private buckets reachable only through short-lived signed links.
Your rights (RA 10173)
Sensitive actions — consent grants and revocations, deletions, and verification decisions — are recorded in an immutable audit log, as the law expects of a responsible personal-information controller.
Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your login, records, ID documents, and files are permanently removed; only the minimal immutable audit entry that a deletion occurred is retained, as required for accountability.
